The U.S. is facing strong reactions after President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China. The order places a 25% tariff on most Mexican and Canadian goods, a 10% tariff on Canadian energy products, and a 10% tariff on Chinese goods.
Trump warned that Americans might feel “some pain” as a result, but leaders of the affected countries are not backing down. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum have threatened to impose their own tariffs in response. Canada’s counter-tariffs are set to take effect Tuesday, the same day U.S. tariffs begin. Meanwhile, Sheinbaum hinted at a “Plan B”, with details expected soon.
China also hit back, with its Commerce Ministry announcing plans to file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO). They also vowed to take “necessary countermeasures” to protect their trade interests.
With tensions rising, this global trade dispute could have major consequences for businesses and consumers alike. Stay tuned for updates
